New Obsession Alert

For anyone who at one point may have been a fan of MGMT, this is for you.  The Naked and Famous are here, and here to stay.  With their album dropping in September you are surely about to hear a whole lot more from them as well.  For the time being, here are their two newest videos and singles as well as some MP3 DL's for ch'y'all.

This one has been on repeat in my car for most of August this summer.  Enjoy.

Wavves on Acid

Wavves have released a new video for Post Acid.  Directed by Patrick O'Dell of Epicly Later'd (VBS Tv) fame.  Starring Kevin "Spanky" Long as the Alien doing a day of chilling and skating with the band.  Speaking of which, the band backing Wavves frontman Nathan Williams on their new release are the late Jay Reatards former band, which seems to be a good fit.  Still giving them a lo-fi sound while making the tunes slightly more listenable/grooveable for many peeps.

Anyway, download Post Acid HERE

Oh, and look for an appearance by some Mishka gear in the vid.

The Midnight Club EP Pt. 1

:Never Look Back

After remixing some of the best bangers in the past year, Russ Chimes is finally set to drop his own EP.  This is the first accompanying video to the music.  I will be making sure to post the subsequent parts as well.  Ya dig?

On a personal anecdote, I'm back from another round tree planting and thankfully I made enough pretty pennies to be able to fund my half of the CandidAllStars trip to Vegas.  Yeah, that's right, motherfvcking Vegas baby.  Jay and I are heading down on Sept 19th-25th for the Interbike tradeshow.

While it's not quite done yet, I have also been working on my mom's new website for her Ceramics over the past few days.  If you feel so inclined, check it out at www.carolannmichaelson.com

Wonderfully Retro.

Will this man just drop an album already.

Chill to Thrill.

Continuing with my posting extravaganza today, I've still got 4 more tracks to post, but I'll get to that.  Firstly, some cottaging adventures have got to be chronicled.  Oh, and everyone has the right to hate Jay as he just got back from 8 days in Jamaica.  Tough life.

Anyway, we recently spent a man-up weekend up at PP's cottage fully taking advantage of his very very nice 23' Moomba Wakeboard boat.  Here's just a few pics from our attempts at Wakesurfing.  So that's no bindings and the goal is to be able to let go of the rope and coast the surf behind the boat and not sink.  Neither one of us were great at it, but we were starting to get it after far too many tries.

Nibs (Jay)

My feet, the sexy boat and Jay wakeboarding behind.

Now, onto some more tunes.

For some down tempo beats and rhythms you can't really go wrong with either of these next two.  Both are newcomers to the the site, but I doubt it will be their last occurrence here.

Au Revoir Simone - Tell Me (Clock Opera Remix)

How to Dress Well - Suicide Dream 2 (Spirituals Remix)

Undoubtedly one of my favorite songs in existence, as in period, end of story, for as long as I can remember, has been Tonight Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins.  Now not so say I wouldn't post any Pumpkins on here, ever, but it is pretty unlikely, but when Passion Pit were recently asked for Levi's Pioneer Sessions to cover an influential song to them, they stepped up with this great rendition of the Pumpkins 1996 classic.

Passion Pit - Tonight, Tonight

I'll admit, as of this past year, I haven't really been a fan of Grizzly Bear's newest release, but Daniel Rossen who is one of the main frontmen behind them has still been consistently putting out great music with side act Department of Eagles.  Being A duo who have been together for longer than Grizzly Bear, it isn't hard to realize when you hear some of the songs they put out, why they are still making it work.  This is from their recently released LP, Archive 2003-2006.  Damn, these fellas make ear shatteringly good music.

Department of Eagles - While We're Young

A Dash of Electro.

Jeff Soto's Swingset.

A Batch of Electro Remix's

Not quite dancefloor bangers, but enough to get you grooving in the car or on your headphones.  I have downloaded a ton of new music since being home this month, and these are certainly the electro standouts so far.  If you have read our blog before, there should be a few things evident, we like Fear of Tigers, I've got a crush on Marina of Marina and the Diamonds and we still dig Crystal Castles.  I'm about to hit all those bases plus a new remix of LCD Soundsystem.

Rosanna - Waterfall (Fear of Tigers Remix)

Marina and the Diamonds - Oh No! (Grum Remix)

Crystal Castles - Vietnam (Midnight Conspiracy Remix)

LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change (Stereogamous Remix)

The Cudi Post.

There is no denying I dig KiD CuDi, even though he writes his name out that same way I did in grade 9 to my online display names.  Aren't you all glad Jay and myself didn't decide to write Candid All Stars out like cAnDiDaLLsTaRs or something along those lines... yeah me too.

Regardless, he is still putting out tune after tune.  Unfortunately, his new album keeps getting pushed farther and farther back (currently slated for October 26th).  Now, I know some of these have been out for a few hot weeks now, but bare with me, I'm making up for lost time and a lack of posting, so I may be posting tracks that are a few weeks old.  OH NO!

The first three are all supposed to be on his upcoming album, while they've all still got the same Cudi sound, there is some new flair.  Mojo So Dope is pretty standard, but Erase Me is just about as close to a rock song as I can imagine him getting.  No comment on Kanye's verse in that one though, ugh.  Now, the strings in REVOFEV undoubtedly make the track.  It's very solid slow jam.

KiD CuDi - Mojo So Dope

KiD CuDi feat. Kanye West - Erase Me

KiD CuDi - REVOFEV

Now, I would love to hear more and more tracks like this one.  Definitely an interesting take on new music blending Cudi with Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij & Bethany Cosentino from Best Coast.  If you haven't checked out Best Coast, make sure to check them out.  The indie fiends have been raving about them for a good while now.

Here's the video for it too:

Let it commence. I'm Baaaaccckkk!

This time, I'm back, Not Jay like previously announced a while back.

Don't you worry peeps, the frequent music posts will be making their return.  But I figured I may as well share a few of my favorite pics I took from my yearly summer endeavour that involves some glorious bush living.  For anyone just reading this, that may not be a close friend of either Jay or myself, my summertime occupation for the past 5 years which has essentially put myself through University (financially wise) has been to tree plant everywhere from Ontario to Alberta and BC.  For the past few years I have been lucky enough to crew boss and manage my own crew of 12 or 13 dirtbags (I say that in the most sincere way possible) each day.

Anyway, here are some photos to summarize.

Campfires. We live for these. Shot taken somewhere in the vicinity of 4am.

This was taken on my Birthday, June 1st. Glorious day. Until it poured rain. Nice looking block though.

The amount of shotguns consumed at planting is slightly absurd. Its reserved for planters and bros. PBR baby.

Speaks a thousand words. Shylas the shit. She also cooks our delicious food.

Another scenic lake. Great for swimming other than the masses of leaches.

Me in T-Bay. Lake Superior. Crew Shot #1. Last day of the spring contract.Crew Shot #2. Some very tired, very smelly peeps.

Wizard Staffs/Beer Spears. All I know is that I was winning.

Definitely one of my favorite shots of the year and not just because I'm the only thing in focus. -G

No One is Cooler then Me

So for a song I first heard on the Radio I'm kind of digging this tune. Lets face it, everyone can identify with its message. Well everyone except G and myself because well, we are pretty effing cool...

watch for a cameo by The Hundreds, cheayea!
